הפעם מדובר בפרק מיוחד לחג המולד, שנעשה כולו בטכניקת סטופ מושן. בפרק עצמו, ששודר ב-9 בדצמבר 2010, מתייחסות הדמויות לעובדה שהן בסטופ מושן במודעות מלאה, והאנימציה המשובחת מנוצלת היטב לקידום העלילה: "Well, we can move around more. There is no point in being animated if you don't"/ Abed. העניין שריתק אותי המיוחד בפרק הזה היה הדיוק הגדול שהיה בהנפשה של הדמויות, והעיצוב שלהן, להתאמה לאופי הדמויות המקוריות: גם אם הבובות לא בהכרח דומות דמיון פיזי לשחקנים, ברגע שהם מתחילות לזוז (וכמובן לדבר, הדיבוב של השחקנים המקוריים) ברור מיד מי הדמות העומדת שם.
בשני קטעי הוידאו המצורפים ניתן לראות את הבובות המעוצבות של הדמויות בשני מופעים: האחד "ראליסטי" והשני "מדומיין" לכאורה. מומלץ להציץ בפרקים אחרים בסדרה (למי שעוד לא מכיר) להתרשם מהדמויות המקוריות ולחוות את האנימציה שלהם על בסיס היכרות עם הדמות. בסדרות טלויזיה זה לגיטימי לצפות שפרקים קודמים יהיו בסיס להיכרות של הצופה עם הדמות (בניגוד לסרט בו הבניה של מערכת היחסים הזאת מתחילה מאפס), והתכונה הזאת מנוצלת גם היא באופן מושלם.
"Community" is recommended anyway, animated or not. This somewhat revolutionary comedy, has been investigating format options for several seasons.
This it is a stop-motion animated Christmas special, aired on December 9-th, 2010. In this episode the characters are aware of their "animatedness", and the (magnificent) animation is used well to deliver the story: "Well, we can move around more. There is no point in being animated if you don't" /Abed. What I found fascinating is the extreme accuracy in the character animation applied in those dolls, and it's resemblance to the original series characters: even if the dolls themselves don't look much like the actors, once they start moving (or talking - originally dubbed by the actors themselves) it cannot be more clear who the character is.
In the attached videos you can see two designs of the dolls, one more realistic and the other more fantasy-like. I recommend to take a peak at other episodes of the series, to get to know the real characters a bit better, and then experience their animation. In TV series the characters' familiarity is developed throughout the series (while in cinema this relationship is established all though the film), and this unique quality is notices and well taken care of too.
