חיים ללא משקל - Weigtless life

סרט זה (בלינק המצורף) הופק עבור ערוץ "קולטורה" הרוסי. הוא קצת ארוך אבל שווה את הצפייה, לכל מי שמתעניין באנימציה. הסרט סוקר את ההיסטוריה של הסטודיו "סיוזמולטפילם" שהוקם אחרי מלחמת העולם הראשונה ברוסיה, המטרה לנסות "לתעש" את האנימציה. ההשראה להקמת סטודיו גדול הגיעה מאולפני וולט דיסני, שצברו באותן שנים תאוצה גדולה מאוד. נוצר מצב מעניין שבו הרוסים, הבנויים שונה תרבותית מהאמריקאים, "רודפים" אחרי האולפנים ובבת אחת מתרחקים מהם ומורדים בהם. יש התכתבות מתמידה בין העבודה של האולפנים. בסרט מרואיינים גדולי אנימציה רוסית, ביניהם חביב הבלוג יורי נורשטיין ופיודור חיטרוק. הקריינות טיפה מנדנדת, אבל שווה לראות מעבר לזה ולשמוע את אותם אנשים גדולים מדברים על העשייה שלהם ועל ההתפתחות שלה באולפנים.

אולפני סיוזמולטפילם אחראים על קלאסיקות על כמו "פו הדב", "נו פאגאדי", "קיפוד בערפל", "מוגלי" (ספר הג'ונגל), וסדרות סטופ מושן מופלאות וביניהן "צ'יבורשקה", שנהיה לימים הלוגו של האולפן.

This short documentary (in the link above) was produced for the Russian channel "Kultura". It is a bit long but worth the attention, to all those who are interested in animation. The film presents the history of the great animation studio "Soyuzmultfilm", which came to exist after WW1. The goal was to industrialize animation, the same as it was done in the popular Disney studios. The interesting thing is that the Russian studios found themselves both trying to be like the Disney studios and and trying to develop their own way of work. In the film there are interviews with the great people behind Russian animation, among those are Yuri Norshtein and Fyodor Khitruk. The narration is a bit nagging, but it is worth to see past that how those great people tell the story of the industry from their own perspective.

Soyuzmultfilm studios are responsible for classics such as "Winnie the Pooh", "Nu Pagadi", "Hedgehog in a fog", "Maugli" (the Jungle Book), and magical stop-motion films such as the unforgettable "Cheburashka", who became the logo of the studio.

עוד השראה - או "אנימציה סובייטית חלק א'" More inspiration - or "Soviet Animation - Part 1"

לאנימציה האירופאית והאמריקאית שני מוצאים שונים. זו האמריקאית התפתחה מהקומיקס ואילו האירופאית מתיאטרון הבובות. נכון שבעולם המודרני הן נפגשו וכעת שואבות השראה זו מזו כך שאין להבדיל יותר, אבל אין להתעלם מההבדל הגדול שבשתי צורות החשיבה.

הפוסט הזה מוקדש לסרטונים שמהווים מבחינתי מקור השראה גדול, גם בתסריט עצמו וגם בגישה הייחודית שיש לאמן הזה, יורי נורשטיין, לעבודת האנימציה שלו.

קיפוד בערפל - 1975

כשהייתי קטנה לא הבנתי את הסרט הזה, לא אהבתי אותו, וההורים אהבו ולא יכלו להסביר למה. הוא בנוי באופן מאוד שונה ממה שאנחנו רגילים לראות בסרטי אנימציה, ובפרט בזו המיועדת לילדים. אין צבעים צעקניים, אין תנועות מוגזמות, אין פסקול מתוק. יש פסקול - ועוד איך יש. גם הריגוש שם, אלא שהריגוש הזה הוא מעט מתחת לפני השטח, מפתיע מתוך שכבות הציור והצילום של הסרט. הריגוש שמגיע ממקומות לא שגרתיים באנימציה, מקומות של עיוורון, טשטוש ואי בהירות.

הסרט מובא כן עפ כתוביות באנגלית, כמו שהוא יצא באוס, הדי וי די Masters of Russian Animation הממולץ בחום (וגם ניתן להשגה די בקלות בעידן הכה-נגיש הזה).

European and American animation have different origins. The American animation developed from comic books, while the European animation evolved from puppet theatre. It is true that in modern times they have merged into each other, but let us not ignore the great difference between those two ways of thinking.

This post is dedicated to films which are of great inspiration for me, both in the script and in the special approach this artist, Yuri Norstein, takes in his animation work.

Hedgehog in a Fog - 1975:

When I was little I neither understood nor liked this film. My parents though, loved it but could not explain why. It "works" differently then animation we are used to see, especially the work aimed for kids. No vivid colours, no exadurated gestures, no sweet soundtrack. But the soundtrack is there indeed, and so is the excitement, only it is hidden a bit underneith the surface, surprising between the layers of footage and film. This excitement comes from unusual places in animation, from places of partial blindness and blur.

The film is presented here with superb English subs, as it came out in a DVD collection called "Masters of Russian Animation". The collection is highly recommended, and quite easy to get hold of in our digital age.

אגדת האגדות 1979:

עוד עבודה בלתי נשכחת של נורשטיין היא "אגדת האגדות". עבודה זו היא מחתרתית יותר, ולא שודרה בטלויזיה תקופת מה מפאת נושאים "שנויים במחלוקת" בהם הסרט עוסק. כאן מובא רק שליש מהסרט ואני ממליצה בחום להשיג אותו ברזולוציה סבירה יותר.

צפיתם בסרט, ולא הבנתם? זה בסדר גמור. אני עובדת על זה עד עכשיו, וזו תהיה לפחות הפעם השישית שבה צפיתי בסרט הזה. הסרט הזה לא עושה טובות לאף אחד, הוא לא מסביר ולא מבהיר. הוא אפילו לא מספר על מה הוא - וזה עדיין עובד. דוגמא לסרט שלא בנוי לפי עקרונות "יסודות כתיבת תסריט" כמו שהם מועברים בצורה קלאסית. הוא עובד עם הצופה דרך רגשותיו ולא ההגיון שלו.

Tale of Tales 1979:

Another unforgettable work by Yuri Norstein is "Tale of Tales". This work is more "underground" and was not aired for a while due to the "controversial" subjects which it presented. Here only a third of the film is available, and I strongly recommend to find it in a fair resolution.

You watched the film and didn't understand? That's perfectly OK. I am still working on it , and that would be about the sixth time I watched it. This film does not "do favours" to anyone. It does not explain or clarify its intentions. It doesn't even tell us what is it about - and it still works. An example of a film which is not constructed on the "basics of screenplay writing" in the classic meaning. It works with the viewers emotions and not with his reason.
